Vanessa Simmons: Pieces of Me

Vanessa Simmons is known for being the daughter of former Run DMC rapper, Rev Run but— trust me— she has far more to offer than just mere popularity from family relations.

Her drive runs deeper than just wanting to remain in the limelight. She says that she never looked at her bloodline as a hindrance, and she never felt as though she was in the shadows. She looks at her background and her family as blessings that will continue to inspire Vanessa and push her to improve her own work ethic. Vanessa and her sister, Angela Simmons, started off their entrepreneurial lifestyles at a young age when they went into business together to start their own company, Pastry.

Since then, Vanessa has been given an enormous amount of opportunities that have only been made possible due to her impeccable work ethic. For instance, she has been given an amazing opportunity to work on a new show, Project Runway: Threads. I mean, c’mon, have you seen her fashion sense? Who else could possibly be a better candidate? Being apart of the show, she has become inspired by seeing people follow their dreams so fearlessly at such a young age.

Project Runway may be in the forefront of Vanessa’s life as of now, but she has a lot up her sleeve. is a new lifestyle site that she has generated around fashion for women of all shapes and sizes and also for children. The site is based on trends and other items that she feels are in demand. You wouldn’t even have to break the bank. She was even gracious enough to offer a ‘20% off’ discount to any of the readers who wish to shop on the site. The discount can be applied to any purchase by using the code: ShuString. So, make sure you guys check it out! In addition to the fashion side of her professional career, Vanessa has been pursuing her acting career. You guys may know that she was a reappearing character in the soap opera, Guiding Light, but now, she is in pre-production for an upcoming feature that she is really excited about. She reveals, “I moved to LA 7 years ago with a dream to be an actress [sic]. It hasn’t been the easiest path, but I am determined always to perfect my craft and grow as a thespian.”

One cannot talk about Vanessa Simmons without mentioning the family aspect of her life. As you may know, she just recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Ava Marie. She says that being a mommy has been the best thing to happen to her thus far.

She says, “It’s crazy to me everyday when I look at her that she is mine and that I made her. She makes me feel like I can achieve anything and much, much more…”

Even though Vanessa has started her own family, who can forget the rest of the Simmons family? We asked her how everyone felt about the little one, and her response was, “Everyone loves and spoils their little Ava.” As you may recall from the hit reality show, Run’s House, the Simmons family has always been and will always be admirably close. Vanessa doesn’t rely on her fame to provide her with happiness. Family, motherhood, and her professional life are all big pieces of who she is. Every piece is what makes her, herself and unique from every other young socialite turned entrepreneur. As the younger generation would say: Don’t sleep on Ms. Vanessa Simmons. She has so much more to offer than a pretty face and a dream.
